Anyone got dm500 to stream with vlc

Has anyone ever got vlc to play a stream from a dm500s. I can get it to work with other sat boxes but not my dm500s.

Try to change the image, are you trying to stream in your local network, to stream directly from DM500 or to a VLC server ?

I am trying to stream directly from dm500 in the network to the pc. Cant find the dm500 in my local network.
I would like to keep edge nemesis image if possible.

I use newnigma2 image and it’s work.

To find your dreambox ip in Start -> Run -> CMD run this command :

For /L %X In (1,1,255) Do ping -n 1 192.168.1.%X

You will see an answer containing something about ms, then that's your dreambox IP or other PC in LAN

to do it use vlc media player 0.8.1 and vlc client 0.2.3
Install "VLC Media Player 0.8.1" on your PC. Last versions of "VLC Media Player" are not working properly with this plugin.I recomend you to install version 0.8.1 downloadable from above link since it is the version I used to run all tests while writing this tutorial. If you already installed on your PC a newer version of videolan but you still want to install version 0.8.1 in a different folder to be used to watch divx with your dreambox, you can do that since there are no problems with other existing versions. Do not use any space in the install folder name and uncheck all install options. If you are using version 0.8.1 only, please select and check all install options instead:

1:This is needed to avoid any possible mess with Start win menu and to not overwrite last version modules for browser which would be overwritten with older version modules.

Select "VLC media player" icon on your desktop (create one if you dont have one) and right click with your mouse to select "Properties". Go to "Shortcut" and write after exe name:
"--intf wxwin --extraintf=http"
2:Run "VLC Media Player 0.8.1" by clicking over icon you just edited.

If you get following warning message, please apply on "Unblock"
3:Go to "Settings" menu and after to "Preferences...".

Select "Input" in the list at left of program window, input 8080 in "Server port" and save by clicking on "Save" key at the bottom, quit the program after:
4:Open with "NotePad" "vlc.xml" file in "VLC Client 0.2.3" plugin.

Edit your pc IP into "server ip" and edit full path to your PC folder where divx files are stored into "config startdir":
5: Save file and quit "Notepad".



On your dreambox

Copy all files you find in "VLC Client 0.2.3" zip archive to your dreambox with a ftp client:
"vlc.xml" on "/var/tuxbox/config"
"vlc.cfg" and "vlc.so" on "/var/tuxbox/plugins"

Run in your PC "VLC Media Player 0.8.1" by clicking over the icon you edited before.

On your dreambox select plugins menu (generally clickin over yellow key) and run "VideoLanClient", you should see listed all content of folder you edited in "vlc.xml" file.
6:Select video file and press "OK" on remote to start play.

Should you not see all files listed, you might have a firewall on your pc locking access from dreambox to your pc. Desable your firewall or set it to allow access to IP dreambox to your PC.
it work with mfaraj,dreamstream,zapdream.dreamviewer.

I have no problem in vlc stream using PLI Image Max version on local network.

I am using video coding H264 with less bandwidth (512 KB), mp3 (64Kb). I can see video on my Galaxy tab using vplayer pro on 3G. But no video only audio in Vlc player in windows 7.

If I use other video codec than it require higher bandwidth and on 3G picture quality is bad.

Can anyone help in choosing right codec for video?

Use any PLI image and vlc 0.86 when you install vlc on your pc select all options to play all type of files.thats it then type your ip address of your box in mozilla firefox,select channel and click on webX tv.its as simple as that with pli images.i use pli jade 3.

this streaming takes horrible download/upload.
i'd prefer to simply use Tunisia-sat dreambox player&web streamer.
you can set restream to any quality or justin.tv.

tunisia plugins beacome out of date for some time of use and its show picture on screen to register.

I still think vlc with pli image is the best and very simple.

What do you mean. My mfaraj dreambox viewer doesnt seem to work anymore, is this the reason. It did work and was quite good.
